Eight films offering an introduction to the distinct languages, histories and cinematic traditions of Northeast India.

There is no single Northeast Indian cinema. Each of the region’s eight states has its own languages, histories, communities and filmmaking traditions. This collection offers one starting point from each state, moving from internationally recognised classics to historical epics, family dramas and films rooted in indigenous experience. It is an introductory journey rather than a definitive ranking.
